Welcome to Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano. The Department of Physics was one of the pioneering departments in the University established in 2012. The Department of Physics train students who wish to study Physics and lead in Physics research across the Northwestern region of Nigeria and the country at large. Graduates from the Department of Physics have the capability to hold various positions in government and private sectors, and they can be able to pursue their studies to higher degrees in Physics and related fields.
As of September 2024, the Department of Physics has more than 30 member staff, comprising of well skilled and trained academics, technologists and technicians. Since inception, the Department of Physics have graduated hundreds of BSc graduates with many having first class or upper second-class degrees.

Vision of the Department: The Department of Physics at YUMSUK aims to provide an enviable centre of learning. The centre that produces brilliant graduates who could compete favourably with other graduates from across the globe.
Mission of the Department: The department shall engage not only in teaching, but also to deeply involved in research activities. This will enable the department to host both local and international conferences and workshops and have academic journal of international reputation. The department will play an active role in translating science books into local Hausa language.
Objectives of the Department: The Department of Physics at Faculty of Science, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, has the following objectives:
To promote collaborative activities/exchange programmes aimed at establishing and fostering relationships with sister Universities and other bodies within and outside the country.
