Welcome to the Department of Computer Science Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano. The Department contributes to the mission of the University in training undergraduate and graduate students with the requisite skills needed to solve complex technological problems of modern society and prepare them for graduate and labour force in Computing Sciences at all levels. The Computer Science department offers degree programmes leading to the award of B.Sc, PGD,  M.Sc and PhD in Computer Science respectively. The Department is adequately staffed with qualified and experienced faculty and staff to impart quality education to students. Also, well-equipped laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities such as modern programming languages place our graduates on the same pedestal as their counterparts in developed countries.

Our student learning outcomes for the B.Sc. program in computer science are:

1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
6. Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions

Educational Objectives

Our educational objectives for our undergraduate programs in computer science are to educate the next generation of computer professionals and academics who will

1. Embody the best ideals of a liberal, Jesuit education as knowledgeable, caring, ethical, well-spoken men and women with critical and reasoned judgment.
2. Practice computer science and software engineering, understand the fundamental principles of computer science, and continue to develop their technical competencies.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of Computer Science Programme are normally indispensable in these modern days as virtually every transaction (business or otherwise) requires the use of computers. As a result, they are usually in very high demand in many industries, including manufacturing, banking, insurance, etc. Computer Scientists are required for rigorous research/academic work, systems design and implementation, computer systems management and maintenance etc. Thus, Computer Science graduates have a very wide scope of career opportunities covering virtually every sphere of business. They are also equipped to establish their private practice in Information Technology, Computer Training, Software development and e-technology generally.
