The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano.
The programmes approved by the NUC are MSc. Accounting, Masters in Accounting and Finance (MAF), Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance (PGD), B.Sc. Taxation, B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Software Engineering and B.Sc. Industrial Mathematics.
This is contained in the approval letter dated March 15, 2022, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university and signed by the Director of Academic Planning of the NUC, Dr. N. B. Saliu for Executive Secretary.
According to the approval letter, the Executive Secretary considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the programmes.
The programmes are to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from the 2021/2022 academic session.
The approval does not cover the part-time mode of delivery of the undergraduate programmes.
All programmes shall bear only the approved titles and nomenclatures and any change will require the approval of the Commission.
It enjoined the University to provide adequate human and material resources for the development and growth of the approved programmes.
Similarly, the NUC considered and approved splitting of Department of Arts and Social Science Education into:
- Educational Foundation: Early Child Education (B.A. Ed)
- Educational Foundation: Guidance and Counselling (B.A. Ed.)
- Curriculum and Instruction: Educational Technology (B. Ed.).
The Commission also approved the splitting of Department of Science and Technical Education into:
- Building Technology (B.Ed. (Tech.)
- Electrical/Electronic Technology (B.Ed. (Tech.).
It would be recalled that a resource verification visit was carried out by panels of experts to some proposed academic programmes of the University with a view to assessing the human and material resources available for their establishment.
Commenting on the new approved programmes, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, assured smooth take-off of the programmes.
